ServiceMaster Clean is participating in the third annual Forget Me Knot Challenge to support Alzheimer’s Society.

Alzheimer’s is commonly misunderstood as a natural part of ageing.

However, it is a deadly neurological disease that is currently the UK’s biggest killer, estimated to affect 1 in 2 people in the UK in their lifetime.

This year, ServiceMaster brands across the UK have once again partnered with the Alzheimer’s Society to help them provide help and hope to the 900,000+ people living with dementia in the UK.

Throughout 2025, we’re working closely with our friends at the Alzheimer’s Society to raise a further £10,000 as part of our commitment to supporting them in their cause.

And as part of our fundraising commitment, our businesses nationwide are again undertaking the Forget Me Knot Challenge.

But what is the Forget Me Knot Challenge? And how can you get involved?

This blog post has all the details.

What is the Forget Me Knot Challenge?

The Alzheimer’s Society is represented by the forget-me-not flower, long associated with Alzheimer’s and dementia due to its impact on memory loss.

The Forget Me Knot Challenge is a sponsored virtual relay in which staff and owners from our businesses across the UK run, walk, or cycle the equivalent total mileage between each of our businesses, tying them together and raising funds for Alzheimer’s Society: creating the Forget Me Knot.

Micheal Abraham, Customer Services Assistant at ServiceMaster London & Essex Contract Services.

I have been with ServiceMaster for 13 years and have really enjoyed my time here so far. I am employed by a fantastic family run company and work with the best colleagues.

I joined ServiceMaster in 2009 and worked as a mobile cleaner for the first 3 years before moving into a full time role as a caretaker at one of our London sites. I gained a lot of experience from the caretaker role, it grew my confidence as I met a lot of new people from different industries and I also made a few friends along the way.

I am now working in our office and have been since 2015, I wanted a new challenge and to work in a different environment.  I was initially employed as an Administration Assistant and am now a Customer Service Assistant, as first point of contact dealing with customer queries via email and phone together with many other tasks.

I have learned so much during my time with ServiceMaster and my boss has provided help and support to transition from being in the field to the office environment.

A huge well done to Joanne Taplin-Knight, Office Manager for ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services London City.

On Saturday 19th June, despite a long wait for the weather to clear, Joanne finally got to jump out of a plane

“I have to say that it was the most terrifying thing I have ever done but an amazing experience and I’m so glad I had the courage to do it!”

All in all, I have raised a staggering £3,500 for Ronald McDonald House Charities, they think I am the highest single jumper fundraiser which is totally overwhelming and I have you all to thank for helping me to achieve this.

I am grateful beyond words for your kind donations and know that it will help the charity tremendously, thank you so much for having faith in me.” Said Joanne.

Joanne Taplin-Knight, Office Manager for ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services London City is daring to go “Above & Beyond” for charity.

On 19th June, Joanne will be going ‘above’ the skyline and ‘beyond’ her comfort zone, by taking part in a skydive to help raise money for Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Ronald McDonald House Charities provide free ‘home away from home’ accommodation at specialist children’s hospitals across the UK, enabling families to stay close to their sick child and maintain a degree of normal family life.

This charity is particular close to Joanne’s heart. A close friend of hers suddenly found herself in a position where the support of the charity was much needed. Her son had fallen 30ft from an abandoned building, suffering a serious brain injury and ending up in a coma for weeks.

Joanne has already smashed her first target of £800, just surpassed her second target of £1200 and is now aiming even higher to support this worthwhile cause.
