ServiceMaster Clean Swansea and South Wales Celebrates 20 Years in Business

ServiceMaster Clean Swansea and South Wales owner Jayne Gethin reflects on 20 years in business.

Jayne Gethin took the helm of ServiceMaster Clean Swansea and South Wales in March 2005.

She is now celebrating 20 years of dedicated service, providing top-quality commercial cleaning services in Swansea and across South Wales.

To mark the occasion, we sat down with Jayne to reflect on two decades in business.

The Journey So Far – Becoming an established family-business

The business has gone through multiple evolutions in the last 20 years.

Originally, Jayne ran the business with her husband Paul part-time while working to support their young family.

Since then, ServiceMaster Clean Swansea and South Wales has become a fully-fledged family-run operation with Jayne and Paul’s children Jonathan and Lianne joining to drive it forward after working elsewhere and obtaining their degrees, bringing a wealth of experience to the business.

In this time, the business, like others within the industry and elsewhere, has had to navigate significant changes to things like employment law, health and safety and environmental concerns, which have all made waves within the cleaning world.

Jayne notes that some of these have been very challenging at times, but with the help of her team and the ServiceMaster family, they have navigated them fully to continue to grow and thrive.

“Any business owner who is being honest will tell you that it certainly comes with many challenges, but being a ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services owner has provided me with a wealth of experience personally and professionally. I would not change my journey for anything, and I am so glad we purchased our ServiceMaster license.”

Finding balance

Balance is key to Jayne and all other business owners, whether finding a way to manage their time, work and life commitments or navigating the successes and challenges that come with running a business.

“It can be very difficult in the early stages to juggle your work/life commitments whilst achieving business goals. I was extremely lucky to have employed such a strong team in the beginning which allowed me to focus on the bigger picture of growth and smooth operational success.”

The business also naturally has to balance new challenges with the successes and growth they achieve.

“Over the course of 20 years, every business faces its own set of challenges,” Jayne says.

“Cash flow is often a massive hurdle to overcome, especially in the early years or following periods of rapid growth.”

“Recruitment is also a big challenge, making sure we hire the right people and building a strong team is essential for long-term success.”

But these become new avenues for growth, with Jayne and the team adapting their operation to provide new solutions, such as initiatives that support team morale and a constant open-door policy.

All of this contributes and balances with the successes, which Jayne attests have been numerous, including retaining the same staff and clients for their entire time in business and winning multiple high-profile business awards for their exceptional services.

“One of my biggest successes is making a positive impact within our local community and building a reputable brand within the area,” she says.

“Another great success is still employing some of the same staff 20 years later and still servicing some clients who joined within our first year of business. Reflecting on the highlights of the past 20 years, we are so grateful for all of our loyal clients over the last 20 years and proud of the relationships we have built over this time.”

Current Evolutions

At present, Jayne says she is incredibly proud of her business.

Over the past year, the business has grown significantly and seen great success in delivering quality service to its satisfied clients.

“I am very proud of everyone within our team, they work so hard to adapt to different goals and milestones,” she says.

“Our constantly high ‘Tell ServiceMaster’ customer satisfaction scores are a direct result of the efforts of our hard-working team. This dedication reflects strongly on the success and reputation of our business, and they work as a strong team creating excellent teamwork and contributing to a positive workplace culture.”

20 years in, as the business continues to grow and evolve, Jayne is still finding new things that excite her.

“I must admit that in the cleaning world, no two days are the same, there is always something new that brings different challenges daily. I think that knowing our efforts have a positive impact through products, and services or generally watching our company evolve and adapt to changing markets and customer demands keeps my excitement alive. Building personal relationships with staff, customers and suppliers keeps the day enjoyable.”

Looking Ahead

Looking to the future, Jayne says her focus for the years to come is to focus on the satisfaction of her clients and staff to keep supplying exceptional commercial cleaning services.

She will be looking to do this by investing in new technology and systems for success to listen and adapt to the growing and changing demands of the industry and the needs of the clients she serves.

“It is crucial to sustain growth and adapt by introducing new products or machinery that would complement our existing business.”

“It is vitally important that my team and I keep listening to customer feedback to sustain growth and customer satisfaction levels.”
