We sat down with BFA HSBC UK British Franchise Awards finalist Siva Kugathas from ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services AAA.

Siva Kugathas is ready for the BFA HSBC UK British Franchise Awards.

Siva, the owner of ServiceMaster Clean Contact Services AAA, was named a finalist in the BFA HSBC UK British Franchise Awards 2024 in July after winning big last year.

Siva is being recognised in the Business Builder category for purchasing a profitable resale business and excelling by executing strategies that elevate it from good to great.

We sat down with Siva ahead of the awards finals this week to discuss the awards and see how it feels to be a finalist.

About Siva and ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services AAA

Siva purchased ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Guildford in 2017 as a resale from an existing franchisee.

At the time, the business turned over £50,000. In a matter of years, he has transformed it into a shining star in his multi-million-pound, multi-territory empire: ServiceMaster Clean AAA.

Using the ServiceMaster Clean model and thorough strategies that combat common hurdles in the cleaning industry, Siva has transformed a good business into something great.

What inspired you to take the plunge and enter the awards?

“After winning last year, I knew the value that the BFA HSBC UK British Franchise Awards bring to a business. I also didn’t want to rest on my laurels and recognise my business’s overall journey and how we’ve grown in the last year and prove that we can keep getting better and better.”

Why did you specifically choose the category?

“The Business Builder category lets us tell the story of ServiceMaster Clean AAA from where we started to where we are today. I’m really proud of our journey, and I feel that this category allows us to share and be recognised for that.”

What does being a finalist signify for you and your business?

“Being a finalist means so much. For me, it’s about showcasing who we are and what we do, and it means a lot to be recognised by the BFA and HSBC UK alongside all the other great franchisees. And for my team, it means a lot as well. Not only do we all want to be a part of something great, but without them doing the day-to-day, we wouldn’t be able to grow as we have or do what we do, so any award that recognises the business is also for them.”

Are you excited for the awards night?

“I am very excited; it is a great event, and it’s always such a fantastic atmosphere with so many accomplished members of the franchising world in the UK in one room.”

The business is being recognised in the Multi-Unit, Multi-Brand category for its passion for business across multiple brands and mastery of management strategies to enable success.

We sat down with Andre and Jane ahead of the awards finals next week to discuss the awards and see how it feels to be a finalist.

About ServiceMaster Clean by Deeland

The business was started by Contract Services franchisee Nick Dee Shapland in 1991 as a sole trader in Newbury and Reading.

In 2021, it became an Employee Ownership Trust, whereby 80% of the company shares are held in trust on behalf of the employees.

All this has contributed to their achievements in business success in the wider world and ServiceMaster’s franchise network.

What inspired you to take the plunge and enter the awards?

“We’re incredibly proud of our journey so far and wanted to showcase what we have achieved to a wider audience and also let our team see how proud we are of them!”

Why did you specifically choose the category?

“Our sustained growth achievements have been delivered through articulation and delivery of a clear strategy, underpinned by a strong company culture, so we believe this award category is most relevant.”

Are you excited for the awards night?

“We can’t wait for the awards night! It will be a fantastic celebration of all of the finalists’ achievements this year.”

The owner of ServiceMaster AAA has won Business Person of the Year Award at the fourth annual SME National Business Awards.

Last Friday 3rd December marked the fourth annual SME National Business Awards. Taking place at Wembley stadium, the ceremony celebrates the innovation and successes of small and medium enterprises – or SMEs. These are businesses (like ServiceMaster) whose personnel numbers equal 250 employees or less.

The awards are open to any successful business in the UK, which are then judged on 18 categories by up to 4 of a national panel of 30 judges, who are all top business people within their chosen area. The team behind the ceremony cite their awards as a “credible opportunity to support and share in our vision to raise the profile of industrious, hardworking and enterprising SME’s nationally,” and “a sought after accolade of achievement, a veritable endorsement of success in business which offers exceptional marketing and PR opportunities as well increasing your credibility and standing in the eyes of your peers and your customers.”

Therefore, we are thrilled to congratulate our very own Siva Kugathas of ServiceMaster AAA, on winning the highest Gold Award for Business Person of the Year. This award recognises a business person or entrepreneur who shows outstanding initiative, boldness, imagination, and management practices in their chosen enterprise.

Siva purchased ServiceMaster Guildford in January 2017 with an annual turnover of around £111,000 and grown his business to around £1,526,000 in 2020 while investing in a further 4 territories. He is also well on track to achieving his £1 million projected growth this year and has invested in a further 5 territories recently, with a plan to achieve £10 million in the next 5 years. It was these successes that Siva and his team were celebrating at their annual conference in Greece at the time of the awards, Siva’s son collected the award in his place, so he says, they had the joint experience of winning the award at Wembley, and reflecting on a great business year on a well-earned trip overseas. Siva says that he attributes the successes of his franchises to the strength of his team, and would like to dedicate this award to them. As well as this, he says that the award has galvanized both himself and his team, and that they are motivated to make 2022 and even better year than 2021.

Once again, we would like to offer Siva our congratulations, and wish he and his team continued success for the year to come.
