ServiceMaster Clean AAA has been recognised for its commitment to its people, from staff to their wider community, through two coveted North Star Invest Awards.

The ServiceMaster Thrive in 2025 conference and gala evening saw Siva Kugathas and his team take home multiple prestigious awards for growth, client satisfaction and employee contributions.

But that’s not all, they also walked away at the end of the night with two prestigious North Star Invest Awards for their support and investment in their stakeholders and their well-being.

A Great Place to Work

This award honours businesses that truly prioritise their people by putting meaningful initiatives in place to strengthen engagement, boost staff retention, and create an environment where their team feel supported and motivated. These efforts lay the foundation for long-term success and help maintain a competitive edge in the local market.

As this year’s winners, ServiceMaster Clean AAA has shown exactly what that looks like in action to create a great place to work. From team outings to build a stronger work culture to sponsoring employees in developing their skills in any subject or area of personal development they choose, they’ve built a culture where achievement is celebrated, and teamwork thrives, resulting in a committed, high-performing team that delivers consistent results.

Collecting the award on behalf of the business was Operations Support Manager Jibu Sahadevan Sukritha, who fittingly provides a key example of the business’s support for its people, as he was sponsored by the company to work in the UK when he first started, and the company paid for him to come to the UK and took care of all his legal proceedings.

He testified upon receiving the award how well-deserved the award was, saying:

“It’s like a second home for me, from the team, our development and all my colleagues, everything.”

Giving Back to the Community

This award recognised ServiceMaster Clean AAA as a business that embodies the spirit of giving back. They give not only locally but also internationally. From supporting local charity events and making generous financial contributions to backing team members in their fundraising efforts and engaging in international initiatives, their impact is both far-reaching and deeply personal.

“ Giving back to the community is important to me. I think personally, to me, it’s in my DNA. That’s how I’ve been brought up, and that’s the way I want my company to be,” said Siva upon collecting his award.

“We split three ways on who we support. One is the local people in need: we put homeless people into their own homes to live in partnership with our local YMCA, and I’m very, very proud of that. That’s the thing that gives me the most satisfaction about our community activity, putting those people from the street into accommodation and sheltering them, giving them food, giving them clothing, and giving them the security and getting them off the street.”

“We provide various things to our staff as well, to help, educate and support them. And also recently, as of two years ago, we started to look after the environment, and that’s very close to my heart.”

ServiceMaster Clean AAA owner Siva Kugathas has been recognised as a Global Power Leader at the 2025 Global Business Conclave at the House of Lords.

It continues to be a great year for ServiceMaster Clean AAA owner Siva Kugathas, who has already been awarded Commercial Cleaning Company of the Year at the Corporate LiveWire Global Awards and multiple International Brilliance Awards, but has now reached new heights by being invited to attend and speak at the renowned Global Business Conclave at the House of Lords.

To top it all off, Siva was awarded the Global Transformational Leader Award as part of this year’s Global Power Leader awards.

This blog post has all the details.

Global Power Leader Awards: Global Business Conclave

The Global Power Leader Awards, held annually at the Global Business Conclave, celebrate pioneering brands and leaders who have redefined industries through innovation, sustainability, and ethical leadership.

The World Centre for Research and Consulting (WCRCInt) holds the Conclave in the iconic Peers Room of the House of Lords.

The event was attended by over 150 policymakers, executives and thought leaders from over thirty nations, creating a truly global collaboration and community. This included several notable dignitaries including Lords, Ambassadors, Baronesses, and mayors.

Awardees were selected through WCRCInt’s 8-month independent evaluation framework, designed to ensure objectivity and rigor.

Key stages included Global Nominations. These are open submissions from 150+ countries, vetted for eligibility using data-driven analysis evaluating quantitative metrics regarding sustainability market influence and qualitative insights like stakeholder impact and ethical governance.

Awardees were then peer and expert reviewed under assessment from a 25-member panel of industry leaders, academics, and policymakers and third-party audits, where they were validated by independent auditors to confirm transparency and accuracy.

“Our methodology blends innovation with integrity. Every awardee has demonstrated measurable, scalable impact aligned with global sustainability goals,” emphasised Abhimanyu Ghosh, Group Editorial Director of WCRCINT”.

Siva was invited and awarded as a Global Power Leader for his astonishing business transformation and commitment to his people and community and transforming his business from a single area to a 19-territory empire in just a matter of years, all the while hiring over 900 staff in communities across the UK, fostering local talent, and donating countless hours and pounds to charities and sustainable business practices.

Lord Swraj, Chairperson of Jury, WCRCINT &. Global Industrialist underscored the significance of winning such an award:

“The Global Business Conclave 2025 isn’t just an awards ceremony—it’s a movement. These brands and leaders are architects of a new economic paradigm, where profit and purpose coexist.”

Speaking on Corporate Social Responsibility and Business Change

For Siva, one of the highlights of the event was bringing his family in attendance to the House of Lords to support and cheer him on as he accepted his award.

“I was delighted to be invited and to attend, for both myself and my family and my team, this is all testament to our hard work, and I am very grateful for everyone involved and for receiving this once in a lifetime opportunity and recognition.”

Siva was also asked to speak to the other members of the congregation about his journey, thoughts and advice for creating a business that transforms the world around it for the good of all it touches.

Echoing throughout the hallowed halls, Siva called for the other attendees to recognise the success rooted in a strong work ethic and integrity and values that support a healthy business and conscious, highlighting the importance of corporate responsibility and giving back to the community.

“I arrived in the UK at 18 after leaving my home country of Sri Lanka, which, at the time, was in the midst of a civil war, and worked from the minute I arrived on British shores. As a single father, I was determined to make a name and a better life for myself and my family. I have since raised two well-adjusted children into adulthood and am committed to continuing to set a good example for them and those around me.”

“This has informed my approach to doing business, as I am determined to take care of my community and work hard to engage with it at every level through my business. This philanthropic core is also baked into my culture, wherein there is no question or ulterior rationale for ‘giving back’, as it were. Community is everything. So, of course, giving back is just what you do.”

“When I first began my business, one of my goals was always to be a business that cares. In just eight years, we have made a tangible impact on the people in our communities across the UK. We do this through different initiatives, focusing on areas and topics I and my team are impassioned by, whether supporting educational groups and sessions to help support children in underfunded areas, mentorship of staff, combatting homelessness through continued work with our local YMCA, championing local businesses by sponsoring SME awards and accreditations or bettering the environment. It is the latter, though, which has been a key focus for me in recent years, as clients across the sectors we serve increasingly focus on their environmental impact. In our market, sustainability has become a hot-button topic, but many businesses, despite possibly having the most skin in the game, have been slow on the uptake. In fact, Forbes recently estimated that although 90% of companies agree that sustainability is essential, only 60% have implemented any strategy to improve their practices. It’s almost 10 years since Ray Anderson, Founder of Interface, spoke on environmental corporate responsibility and coined the phrase ‘comply is not a vision’.”

“Together, we can shape a future where our businesses—and the communities they serve—thrive because of our commitment to care, responsibility, and sustainability. I hope you’ll all be a part of this journey with me!”

“I couldn’t be happier to receive more recognition for our commitment to customer service & going ‘Above & Beyond’ in all that we do. ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Guildford (Owned by Siva Kugathas) have won yet another award. This award shows the exceptional dedication to customer service and business growth in the ‘Transformation’ category of the HSBC British Franchise awards. The transformation award is for business owners that have taken on an existing business and transformed it from good to great.

As always, there was stiff competition including from a rival commercial cleaning company, but Siva and his team have an exceptional story that showed their dedication to the ServiceMaster ethos of going ‘Above and Beyond’ in all that they do. Siva has developed a culture of providing exceptional customer service and staff development, which has resulted in strong growth and expansion for the company in all areas.

Siva purchased ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Guildford from the previous owner in January 2017, and due to their commercial success, the business quickly expanded into the Thames Valley & Bracknell areas followed by Watford & Luton earlier in 2020.

“I feel incredibly proud to be recognised for our commitment to customer service & going ‘Above & Beyond’ in all that we do, in an industry that has perhaps been overlooked before COVID-19. I always strive to be the best in what I do and this BFA award is validation of this.” Siva Kugathas, Franchisee.

A veteran in the franchising industry, our very own, Siva Kugathas has been shortlisted in the Transformation category at the bfa HSBC British Franchise Awards, taking place at the Vox, Birmingham, on November 30.

Siva, who before taking over the ServiceMaster Guildford franchise in January 2017, had already had a career in franchising for over 20 years with both KFC and Pizza Hut, used all that knowledge to transform the business, with turnover now 10 times that of when he first took on the resale.

He chose ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services, a contract commercial cleaning specialist franchise as he believed the potential for growth was evident.

“I am always looking for different and unusual ways to promote my business. In 2017 I featured on Eagle Radio in a carpet cleaning video for “National Clean Your Floors Day.”

Yes, that’s right, a video for radio. It was posted across the radio stations social media platforms and had great results. From this short video, I was noticed by a local company and secured a contract worth £100,000. It’s so exciting when trying something new has such a positive impact on your business.

I already feel incredibly proud to be recognised as a finalist in the BFA Awards. To me, they are the pinnacle of franchise industry awards and winning would be the ultimate achievement. I always strive to be the best in what I do and a BFA award would be a validation of this.” Siva Kugathas, Franchisee.

Pip Wilkins QFP, CEO of the bfa, said:

“In little more than three years, Siva has taken an existing franchise unit and increased its turnover tenfold. This is a fantastic achievement and it has also benefitted people in the community as he has gone from hiring one supervisor to one office manager, one operations manager, three area managers, one sales executive and seven mobile cleaners.”

Andrew Brattesani, Head of Franchising at HSBC, added:

“From the offset, Siva was determined to double the size of his business in 18 months. He focused heavily on maintaining relationships with the existing client base and receiving monthly feedback from customers, as well as putting staff retention at the centre of his objectives.”

Siva will go head-to-head against three other franchisees in November.

Good luck Siva!

The last couple of months have been tough for many local businesses and services as they were forced to temporarily close in March when lockdown was put in place; but some had to remain open. Schools, GP surgeries and some businesses all had to remain open to provide vital services. Staying open to provide these valuable services also created its own challenges, keeping staff, patients and pupils safe had new hurdles to overcome.

ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Guildford (Owned by Siva Kugathas) provide daily and weekly cleaning for lots of local businesses, schools, nurseries and healthcare providers all year round; and as their client’s needs changed, they were able to adapt working patterns to ensure that their cleaning staff could meet the increased demand on some of their client’s sites to ensure that they could continue to operate safely.

Not only have ServiceMaster Guildford managed to meet the changing needs of their existing clients but, Siva and his team were more than equipped to help new clients that needed additional cleaning support during the crisis to help them to stay open safely. Suitable PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) was provided for all of the cleaning staff that kept working to help keep both them and their clients safe. All ServiceMaster Guildford staff received and continue to receive regular communication to ensure they are up to date with changing requirements.

It has long been ServiceMaster Guildfords aim to establish a long-term relationship with their clients in which they play a key role in enhancing the image, cleanliness and hygiene of their clients premises.

In 2018 ServiceMaster Guildford invested in EShield technology, a disinfection system using electrostatic sprayers. They were the first approved users of the patented EShield technology in the UK, and this technology has enabled them to also provide COVID-19 sanitisation within 24 hours of a call from their client. ServiceMaster Guildford have sanitised offices and factories that had had positive COVID-19 cases, enabling them to reopen their premises to resume their services as soon as possible. The requirements for general deep cleans and sanitisation is also increasing as more businesses and services are allowed to open.

Siva’s priority is to go above and beyond to provide exceptional customer service, he is working with all of his clients to help them to continue to operate by implementing new or reviewing current cleaning processes to help make it safe for all.

Here at ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Canterbury we are passionate about cleaning and giving back to our local community.

As part of our commitment to our local community and our company environmental ethos, ServiceMaster Canterbury took part in a Beach clean. The beach clean took place on Friday 13th November and four members of the office team took part. The team were provided with a litter picking kit by the foreshore services through Canterbury Council and were given a specific part of the beach to clean.
The clean took about an hour and a half in total and made a noticeable difference to the beach so all of the local residents can enjoy it more. As part of our environmentally aware ethos at ServiceMaster Canterbury, we are putting plans in place to take part in more regular beach cleans during 2020.
ServiceMaster Canterbury are putting in plans to go ‘Above and Beyond’ not only in cleaning but also giving back to our local community and raising money for a local charity while we are at it.
Here’s to a brighter, cleaner, healthier 2020

All of the team at ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Guildford, are delighted that one of our clients – YMCA Guildford Foyer has been nominated for an award at the YMCA Youth Matters awards.

Just over 3 years ago YMCA Guildford was registered as a welcome centre for Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children (UASC). Due to local authority cuts the welcome centre service was cut. However YMCA Guildford were determined to maintain their services and put to use the expertise developed in that time to support newly arrived UASC within a supported housing environment.

The award they have been nominated for is the Diversity Award 2019

One of our franchisees, Siva Kugathas, who runs ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Guildford slept on the streets to support YMCA!

Siva YMCA

YMCA DownsLink Group hosted their annual Sleep Easy Event at Guildford Castle, which had around 31 people sleeping outdoors on the night of Friday 22nd March.

Siva was one of the dedicated men and women that decided to support this fantastic cause and decided to donate a whopping £1000 to the event and YMCA.

“It was very tough having to sleep just the one night outside, but homeless people sleep every night on the street. I knew I would go home the next day, but those who sleep on the streets don’t have that facility. It made me think deeper.” commented Siva

Sleep Easy has taken place in five locations so far across YMCA DownsLink Groups area, and to date, they have raised more than £42,000! The money raised goes towards helping young people that are currently living homeless, for multiple different reasons.

Donations can still be made online to this great cause at bit.ly/SleepEasy19.

Siva also added, “I am proud to have been involved with this event, and at ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Guildford we are always looking to closely work with local charities and support them in any way we can”.
