For three decades, ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Bradford has delivered contract-led commercial cleaning for organisations that need consistency, accountability, and dependable standards.

Thirty years in operation is not just a milestone. It reflects the ability to support customer contracts through changing buildings, teams, compliance requirements, and expectations, while keeping service levels steady.

What 30 years delivers for customers

Experience at this level shows up in the day-to-day detail. Cleaning programmes are structured properly from the outset. Site teams are supported and supervised. Issues are identified early and resolved quickly. Reporting is clear, and standards are maintained across the full length of a contract.

This approach has helped the business build long-term customer relationships across offices, public buildings, and commercial environments throughout Bradford. Many clients have remained with the business for years, not because of short-term pricing, but because service delivery holds up.

A strong heritage, strengthened by modern leadership.

While the Bradford business has traded for 30 years, it entered a new phase three years ago under current owner Stuart McCaig.

Stuart brought a background in financial contracting, with 15 years’ experience in data analytics and tender evaluation. That experience influences how contracts are managed, with close attention to performance, compliance, and long-term stability.

Rather than changing the foundations, Stuart focused on strengthening them. He improved contract oversight, introduced clearer feedback routes for customers, and modernised how the business communicates and reports, all with the aim of improving consistency on site.

“The priority has always been to protect what customers rely on,” says Stuart. “Our role is to make sure standards stay consistent, issues are dealt with properly, and contracts are managed with care over the long term.”

Consistency that supports customer confidence

ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Bradford continues to retain customers well, including many long-standing contracts. When changes do occur, they are usually driven by pricing pressures rather than service performance, which reflects the strength of delivery.

This consistency is supported by the wider ServiceMaster framework, built on more than 65 years of experience in contract-led services. That structure supports quality control, training, and professional standards that commercial clients expect from a long-term partner.

Growth without disruption

Under Stuart’s ownership, the business has grown while maintaining service quality. Turnover has increased by around 50%, broadly doubling from its earlier baseline, driven by retention and careful contract management rather than rapid expansion.

In 2025, the business expanded into Sheffield. This step was taken only once the Bradford operation was stable and performing well, ensuring existing customer contracts continued to receive the same level of service.

Celebrating 30 years of trusted support

On 27 February, ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Bradford marks 30 years of continuous operation. It is a milestone built on customer trust, committed site teams, and a contract-led approach designed to deliver reliable commercial cleaning over the long term.

As the business looks ahead, the focus remains unchanged. Support customer contracts with consistency. Maintain clear communication. Deliver dependable standards. And continue providing contract-led commercial cleaning that organisations across Bradford can rely on.

ServiceMaster Clean AAA has been recognised for its commitment to its people, from staff to their wider community, through two coveted North Star Invest Awards.

The ServiceMaster Thrive in 2025 conference and gala evening saw Siva Kugathas and his team take home multiple prestigious awards for growth, client satisfaction and employee contributions.

But that’s not all, they also walked away at the end of the night with two prestigious North Star Invest Awards for their support and investment in their stakeholders and their well-being.

A Great Place to Work

This award honours businesses that truly prioritise their people by putting meaningful initiatives in place to strengthen engagement, boost staff retention, and create an environment where their team feel supported and motivated. These efforts lay the foundation for long-term success and help maintain a competitive edge in the local market.

As this year’s winners, ServiceMaster Clean AAA has shown exactly what that looks like in action to create a great place to work. From team outings to build a stronger work culture to sponsoring employees in developing their skills in any subject or area of personal development they choose, they’ve built a culture where achievement is celebrated, and teamwork thrives, resulting in a committed, high-performing team that delivers consistent results.

Collecting the award on behalf of the business was Operations Support Manager Jibu Sahadevan Sukritha, who fittingly provides a key example of the business’s support for its people, as he was sponsored by the company to work in the UK when he first started, and the company paid for him to come to the UK and took care of all his legal proceedings.

He testified upon receiving the award how well-deserved the award was, saying:

“It’s like a second home for me, from the team, our development and all my colleagues, everything.”

Giving Back to the Community

This award recognised ServiceMaster Clean AAA as a business that embodies the spirit of giving back. They give not only locally but also internationally. From supporting local charity events and making generous financial contributions to backing team members in their fundraising efforts and engaging in international initiatives, their impact is both far-reaching and deeply personal.

“ Giving back to the community is important to me. I think personally, to me, it’s in my DNA. That’s how I’ve been brought up, and that’s the way I want my company to be,” said Siva upon collecting his award.

“We split three ways on who we support. One is the local people in need: we put homeless people into their own homes to live in partnership with our local YMCA, and I’m very, very proud of that. That’s the thing that gives me the most satisfaction about our community activity, putting those people from the street into accommodation and sheltering them, giving them food, giving them clothing, and giving them the security and getting them off the street.”

“We provide various things to our staff as well, to help, educate and support them. And also recently, as of two years ago, we started to look after the environment, and that’s very close to my heart.”

ServiceMaster Clean AAA owner Siva Kugathas has been recognised as a Global Power Leader at the 2025 Global Business Conclave at the House of Lords.

It continues to be a great year for ServiceMaster Clean AAA owner Siva Kugathas, who has already been awarded Commercial Cleaning Company of the Year at the Corporate LiveWire Global Awards and multiple International Brilliance Awards, but has now reached new heights by being invited to attend and speak at the renowned Global Business Conclave at the House of Lords.

To top it all off, Siva was awarded the Global Transformational Leader Award as part of this year’s Global Power Leader awards.

This blog post has all the details.

Global Power Leader Awards: Global Business Conclave

The Global Power Leader Awards, held annually at the Global Business Conclave, celebrate pioneering brands and leaders who have redefined industries through innovation, sustainability, and ethical leadership.

The World Centre for Research and Consulting (WCRCInt) holds the Conclave in the iconic Peers Room of the House of Lords.

The event was attended by over 150 policymakers, executives and thought leaders from over thirty nations, creating a truly global collaboration and community. This included several notable dignitaries including Lords, Ambassadors, Baronesses, and mayors.

Awardees were selected through WCRCInt’s 8-month independent evaluation framework, designed to ensure objectivity and rigor.

Key stages included Global Nominations. These are open submissions from 150+ countries, vetted for eligibility using data-driven analysis evaluating quantitative metrics regarding sustainability market influence and qualitative insights like stakeholder impact and ethical governance.

Awardees were then peer and expert reviewed under assessment from a 25-member panel of industry leaders, academics, and policymakers and third-party audits, where they were validated by independent auditors to confirm transparency and accuracy.

“Our methodology blends innovation with integrity. Every awardee has demonstrated measurable, scalable impact aligned with global sustainability goals,” emphasised Abhimanyu Ghosh, Group Editorial Director of WCRCINT”.

Siva was invited and awarded as a Global Power Leader for his astonishing business transformation and commitment to his people and community and transforming his business from a single area to a 19-territory empire in just a matter of years, all the while hiring over 900 staff in communities across the UK, fostering local talent, and donating countless hours and pounds to charities and sustainable business practices.

Lord Swraj, Chairperson of Jury, WCRCINT &. Global Industrialist underscored the significance of winning such an award:

“The Global Business Conclave 2025 isn’t just an awards ceremony—it’s a movement. These brands and leaders are architects of a new economic paradigm, where profit and purpose coexist.”

Speaking on Corporate Social Responsibility and Business Change

For Siva, one of the highlights of the event was bringing his family in attendance to the House of Lords to support and cheer him on as he accepted his award.

“I was delighted to be invited and to attend, for both myself and my family and my team, this is all testament to our hard work, and I am very grateful for everyone involved and for receiving this once in a lifetime opportunity and recognition.”

Siva was also asked to speak to the other members of the congregation about his journey, thoughts and advice for creating a business that transforms the world around it for the good of all it touches.

Echoing throughout the hallowed halls, Siva called for the other attendees to recognise the success rooted in a strong work ethic and integrity and values that support a healthy business and conscious, highlighting the importance of corporate responsibility and giving back to the community.

“I arrived in the UK at 18 after leaving my home country of Sri Lanka, which, at the time, was in the midst of a civil war, and worked from the minute I arrived on British shores. As a single father, I was determined to make a name and a better life for myself and my family. I have since raised two well-adjusted children into adulthood and am committed to continuing to set a good example for them and those around me.”

“This has informed my approach to doing business, as I am determined to take care of my community and work hard to engage with it at every level through my business. This philanthropic core is also baked into my culture, wherein there is no question or ulterior rationale for ‘giving back’, as it were. Community is everything. So, of course, giving back is just what you do.”

“When I first began my business, one of my goals was always to be a business that cares. In just eight years, we have made a tangible impact on the people in our communities across the UK. We do this through different initiatives, focusing on areas and topics I and my team are impassioned by, whether supporting educational groups and sessions to help support children in underfunded areas, mentorship of staff, combatting homelessness through continued work with our local YMCA, championing local businesses by sponsoring SME awards and accreditations or bettering the environment. It is the latter, though, which has been a key focus for me in recent years, as clients across the sectors we serve increasingly focus on their environmental impact. In our market, sustainability has become a hot-button topic, but many businesses, despite possibly having the most skin in the game, have been slow on the uptake. In fact, Forbes recently estimated that although 90% of companies agree that sustainability is essential, only 60% have implemented any strategy to improve their practices. It’s almost 10 years since Ray Anderson, Founder of Interface, spoke on environmental corporate responsibility and coined the phrase ‘comply is not a vision’.”

“Together, we can shape a future where our businesses—and the communities they serve—thrive because of our commitment to care, responsibility, and sustainability. I hope you’ll all be a part of this journey with me!”

Jane Paisley and Andre Gottemaker from ServiceMaster Clean by Deeland are winners in whichfranchise’s Great British Franchisee Awards 2024.

Congratulations to Jane Paisley and Andre Gottemaker from ServiceMaster Clean by Deeland, who, alongside being finalists in this year’s HSBC BFA Great British Franchise Awards, have been awarded Great British Franchisee status by whichfranchise in the Great British Franchisee Awards 2024.

Here’s the full story.

About ServiceMaster Clean by Deeland

ServiceMaster Clean by Deeland was started by Nick Dee Shapland in 1991 as a sole trader in Newbury and Reading.

In 2021, it became an Employee Ownership Trust, whereby 80% of the company shares are held in trust on behalf of the employees and has been under the management of Jane and Andre ever since.

Today, its multi-brand cleaning divisions service six business sectors across four ServiceMaster UK brands: ServiceMaster Clean’s Residential and Commercial upholstery and carpet cleaning, Contract Services office cleaning and ServiceMaster Restore’s disaster restoration brand, with over 400 staff and a fleet of 70 vans, making them the largest ServiceMaster Clean franchise in the UK.

The Great British Franchisee Awards 2024

In achieving Great British Franchisee status, Jane and Andre join sixteen other franchisees from across the UK named this year’s cream of the crop of British franchising, providing exceptional contributions to the sector and delivering excellence in their business – including fellow ServiceMaster Brands UK franchisee Nicky Morris from Merry Maids Fylde, Blackpool and Preston.

They also join their ServiceMaster Clean franchisees, Siva Kugathas, CJ Micallef, and Chris Blewitt, who have achieved this status in previous years. This makes them the fourth consecutive franchisees to achieve this coveted status in as many years.

The awards, currently in their fourth year, celebrate business success and reflect winners’ achievements in stability, growth, staff retention, customer satisfaction, community involvement, inspired leadership and their involvement in their franchise network.

By winning, ServiceMaster Clean by Deeland is officially honoured as one of the best franchises in the UK in one of the industry’s most prestigious awards.

“The calibre of candidates was outstanding again this year. It is great that this exceptional group of franchisees are being recognised for going above and beyond “the norm”.  Their passion and commitment to their brand really shown through in their applications. They are true ambassadors for franchising.” says Suzanne Melville, Head of Marketing at whichfranchise.

What makes Deeland Great

The judges were impressed with the business’s long-term success, professionalism, and commitment to supporting their staff and local community.

They commented that Deeland “promotes the true essence of a great franchise model run by successful and hard-working franchisees.”

Guy Strang, ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Brand Leader, added:

“Jane and Andre exemplify the values that make ServiceMaster Clean stand out. Through their leadership, they’ve built a thriving business dedicated to supporting both their employees and clients.”

“Their commitment to community involvement, innovative use of technology, and focus on staff development have made them true ambassadors of the ServiceMaster brand. Their passion and dedication are why they are worthy winners of this recognition.”

Commenting on their win, Jane and Andre said:

“We are thrilled to have won the Great British Franchisee Award for 2024. A massive well done to our team, without whom this would not have been possible. Thank you so much, whichfranchise, and huge congratulations to all the other winners – it’s great to be in such good company!”

Congratulations, all!

How business success led to an overseas Christmas for ServiceMaster AAA.

2022 was a year of success for the owner of ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services AAA Siva Kugathas.

From winning and judging awards – including being crowned a Great British Entrepreneur and cleaning up at ServiceMaster Live – to taking part in multiple initiatives to support the local community, there’s been no shortage of activity for Siva and his team.

So, a trip abroad to commemorate the holidays certainly didn’t go amiss!

As part of a Christmas Conference and to celebrate all of the various successes and say thank you for all of their hard work, Siva took his senior leadership team to Antalya in Turkey last month.

The conference

When the team arrived in Turkey, it was time for a traditional dress evening full of celebration and anticipation for the conference, which Siva says created great excitement with guests at the hotel.

The next day, Siva shared 2022 results and unveiled plans & strategies for 2023.

This also involved a session on retaining and growing customers, followed by an evening Awards session, meal and drinks to celebrate and thank those who went above and beyond for ServiceMaster AAA in 2022.

The trip was tied off the next day with a full day to explore Antalya and a final evening meal, after which the team danced the night away before their flight home the next day.

The impact

Now back from Turkey, Siva says that he wanted to take his team overseas as an opportunity to bring everyone together.

With a vast territory covering many different areas in the country and staff based in separate offices nationwide, Siva says his goal with the conference was partly to bring the team together and get them working as a unit.

He says it was great to see his staff in a different environment, which enabled him to see how he can support them in a work setting and reward them for their hard work this year.

He adds that the trip was great fun and that it was lovely that everyone got to share an experience, socialise and get together, which, with such a vast team, doesn’t happen very often!

“With the acquisition in February of ServiceMaster North and South of Tyne, we needed to upgrade our office and storage facilities. Fortunately another unit in our building became available and we got in there first. ‘Office A’ is currently housing our extensive range of buffing machines and scrubber dryers as well as the full range of consumables we offer. But, with an eye on further expansion it might not be long before our growing Admin team will need it.”

In light of what is going on in the world, it is great to have some positive news to share. Chris Blewitt has owned and managed ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Durham & Teesside for nearly three years and has grown a reputation among his clients for providing a highly professional cleaning service which has been particularly valued over the COVID-19 pandemic.

Having been brought up in a family-owned and operated Dry Cleaning and Laundry business in the North East, which traded for over 30 years, he then gained over 25 years in operational roles for successful blue-chip organisations – managing large teams of people. Chris made the decision to invest in ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Durham & Teesside three years ago and has not looked back.

Having grown this business successfully to date, Chris knew there was an opportunity to put his skills and experience to good use on a larger scale and expand further.

Chris chose to invest in another local cleaning company to share his knowledge & expertise and has purchased ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services North of Tyne and South of Tyne from the previous owners.

Chris aims to improve on the solid foundation created by the previous owners and put in place more robust procedures to exceed the existing client’s expectations and be able to provide essential regular commercial cleaning services to even more businesses in the North East.

Chris plans on growing the business significantly and is looking forward to building and developing his workforce of 120 staff, creating more local jobs. Cleaning has become more important than ever and as the business grows, not only will there be a need for more cleaning operatives, but also supervisors and office staff to ensure exceptional customer service is maintained.

“Chris has been an exemplary ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Business Owner and has an exceptional commitment to providing excellent service to his clients, we’re excited to see how Chris grows and develops the new business he has invested in and help him become one of the leading ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services businesses within the network”, added Guy Strang, ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Brand Manager.

This year ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Newbury have supported Swings and Smiles based in Thatcham. Swings and Smiles support children and young people with special needs and their families, with the emphasis on happiness, fun and inclusion.

We collected chocolate boxes for the children and their families.  We also made a donation on the ‘Big Matched Day’ to help with their fund-raising.

Adherence to good practices and teamwork played a central role in dealing with challenging economic times in 2018, Managing Director Nick Dee Shapland said at ServiceMaster’s Mid Year Company Review. He confirmed ServiceMaster ended the financial year in a strong position, with the company well positioned to look forward to the business future with optimism and thanked the staff for their leadership and hard work. For the first time, the mid year review was delivered at both ServiceMaster’s offices in Newbury and again in Gloucester due to continued expansion in the social housing market.

The mid-year review included information on:

  • Sales growth in the three departments – Commercial, Communal and Residential.
  • The importance of budgeting to deliver a programme of growth and investment in people, vehicles and technology.
  • The need to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction and investment in staff through training and auditing.
  • Legislative updates and the gender pay gap.

One of the much anticipated meeting highlights was the presentation of the annual Avril Bannister Award. The Avril Bannister Award is given to someone who displays dependability, a consistent quality of work, good communication skills, leadership, a high standard of appearance and is committed to the pursuit of excellence. We are delighted to announce this year’s winner is John Millington, Communal Field Supervisor. Amanda Cook, Commercial Field Supervisor, is the very worthy runner up.

Really busy week last week. Despite the bank holiday, we started 4 new contracts and won 2 more!  The attached picture shows all the new equipment and products ready to be delivered to the sites.
The word is spreading, if you want a truly professional cleaning service, that has old-fashioned values at it’s core, get in touch with ServiceMaster Clean Durham & Teesside.

As you may remember form last month, ServiceMaster Clean Durham & Teesside got into the World Cup spirit and hosted a sweepstake event and activities to involve staff, suppliers and customers.

As well as wanting to have some fun we were also raising money for a local adult disability football team ‘Beamish Dynamos’. Whilst England didn’t achieve all of their goals,  ServiceMaster Clean did,  as we raised  £220 to put towards this very worthy cause.

Pictured is Tom Coltman of Beamish Dynamos FC (left) receiving the cheque from Chris Blewitt the owner of ServiceMaster Clean Durham & Teesside.

Thanks to all who supported this event.

This morning we attended the Derwentside Business Network’s monthly event at Beamish Hall. The theme this month was how best to exhibit your business in a shoebox and the judges picked our shoebox as one of the 3 winners. They said, ‘’As is the case with all good marketing, you have to get noticed and we were in no doubt as to what this business did. ‘’

We received a nice bottle of bubbly from the judges for our efforts. Like everything we do, we went ‘above and beyond’ – well certainly above the rest of the shoeboxes, with our elevated effort !
